My experience at Mama Shelter Rio de Janeiro

    .

Last week I spent one night at Mama Shelter hotel in Rio with my love, Evandro. And what did I find? Amazing!

Mama Shelter is part of the famous Accor group. But Mama`s hotels are different. Smaller, with spectacular decor, full of style and reunite accommodation, gastronomy and music in one place.

    .

The Mama Rio is in Santa Teresa in an old and beautiful house. Santa Teresa is a bucolic neighborhood and this is why the location of Mama Shelter is so special! Much has been renovated, but the characteristic windows and much of the floor, for example, were kept. The decoration is signed by Jalil Amor, ex-assistant of the imposing Philippe Starck, and mixes industrial elements with colors, characters, mosaics and textures.

    .

We stayed in one of the large rooms of the hotel and here is a curiosity: in Mama the room categories are divided by their size and not by the comfort that each of them offers. Comfort is the same, and what really changes is the footage. Our room was very spacious with huge windows and overlooking the hotel courtyard.

    .

With gray and white walls, the room brings many elements of Brazilian culture. Every detail was carefully thought, you know? The bed is very comfortable and television, telephone and work desk complete the amenities.

    .

The bathroom with half of the wall pink is one of my favorite parts. It has a good shower, mirror and hairdryer. The amenities, and all the hotel, are filled with curious phrases that confirm Mama’s branding. So funny!

    .

Breakfast is served daily until 11a.m. Omelets, eggs and tapiocas are freshly made. All juices are natural and delicious. The corn cake was the best! The only thing I didn`t like was the bread; it was not fresh.

    .

The common areas of the hotel surprised me. I confess that I was a little sad because there was no pool, but it wasn`t necessary at all! The courtyard is so cute, full of tables and chairs. In the back has 2 showers, loungers and hammocks to rest. The coolest part is that, besides being quiet, there are lots of greens in those areas, so it looks like you’re in a country town.

    .

We went to the restaurant twice and enjoyed everything we ordered. We had pizza, chips, pasta and parmigiana. The menu has options for everyone, including gluten-free and vegan. There are also options to share! The decor is very cool, full of colorful cushions, musical instruments and lights!

We went to the hotel on monday, so the bar was closed. We just saw the decoration that is beautiful. The weekly schedule includes DJ’s and jazz and it is also possible to celebrate birthdays. Just call Mama and book a table right there.

    .

Everyone who works there was very nice to us. Each one treated us with much affection and sympathy. In particular, Andréa who works at check-in and was a sweetheart! She gave tips, solve doubts … no words!

And my experience at Mama Shelter was like this. Loved it! Can`t wait to go back, not only to spend a few nights but to have lunch and enjoy the bar. The hotel is pet-friendly, so who knows if I take one of my girls there?
